an alternate history: typo style

It's a Wonderful Life is one of my favorite movies for a number of reasons, one being my minor obsession with thinking about alternate history.

Do you ever think about alternate history? Does the idea that the smallest variation in your daily schedule can result in life changing events? I definitely do.

One thing that I think about was the summer post graduation from college back in 2007. I was ready to take on the world, but had no idea what to do about it. I saw an ad in the newspaper about the local paper hiring a copywriter, which was perfect. I had just completed four year degree in literature/writing at what is touted as the top college in NY by several publications. I surely should have been able to attain this position at small town, mediocre newspaper, right? Wrong. Even though I aced the editing test they give out, apparently my amazing personality didn't mesh well, because the job went to someone else.

Would I have been selling vintage full time had I been hired back then? Probably not. Would I be happier? Not as happy? Indifferent? Who knows?

What I do know is that finding mistakes in the local paper has become a bit of a guilty pleasure for me in the years since I lost out on that job. Don't get me wrong, my grammar is far from perfect, but it is certainly close when compared to the copywriters that actually work for the paper. Check out this gem that was in the area police reports today:

Not only did someone spell the word fight as "fite", but also they spelled the person's last name two completely different ways.

It's the little things, really. And now back to pondering what might have been...

A Resolution Revolution

Let's talk about resolutions. I make them and some I follow thru, yet other times I fall woefully short. This year I have this blog to keep me accountable. I have three things I would like to accomplish and I think I can do it. Two of them are a bit easy. The third has been a goal for a while, but I finally feel like I can make it this year.

1. Model for my own Etsy pics-So I am a decent looking gal with a decent body. I think it is darn near time I get over my 'I look terrible in every photo ever' phobia and model my own clothes. Stores with models seem so much more polished than those without and even though I could ask friends/my cousin to, it just always seems so hard to sync up schedules. I'm hoping that at some point this year I can conquer said fear and model some dresses. Shooting for reaching this goal by summer, but maybe even sooner. Time will tell.

2. (Re)Start my artsy Etsy store-Yeah, I started out on Etsy with my photography and hair doodads. They are now completely gone and it's all about vintage. I think it is about time for me to restart the artsy. I make jewelry and have for some time, so I might sell that as well. Hopefully soon. Like January. This is the easiest of the three.

3. THE MEGA RESOLUTION-I plan on buying my first house this year. I am currently a single, 25 yr old gal living in my childhood home. It sucks. I love my Mom and I am grateful that she has let me live here for a while so that I could save some cash, but gosh I need a place of my own. And no more roommates. I have had more than enough of them. They provide hilarious stories later on, but I just want my own place. I'll be 26 in May and I think buying my own place this year would be a pretty proud moment for me. Fingers crossed!

So there are my three resolutions. What are yours?

It's A Wonderful Life + The Killers = Golden

I should have posted the following video on Christmas, but better late than never. It involves my favorite movie and my favorite band, so obv it has to be good.

In other news, a sweater from the shop is featured in a blog post over at Vintage Seen. So, go check it out, mmmk?

How was your Christmas? What did ya get? My top present is a toss up between my new Cynthia Rowley handbag and Puma socks. Haha. A bit of a difference in value, but I really love those socks. Do share:)

Movie Mondays...It's a Wonderful Life

Movie Mondays makes a triumphant return this week with the ultimate holiday flick...It's a Wonderful Life.

5 Reasons I love this movie:

  • Jimmy Stewart-Did you know we have the same birthday? Well, only 77 years apart. I love everything he's in and I'm so obsessed that I have definitely visited his museum down in Indiana, PA. Yup, I'm weird.
  • The Message-Come on..."No man is a failure who has friends." That hits ya. I just love the whole idea of seeing what the world would look like without having been in it. Pretty deep stuff there.
  • Unlikely Angels-Love the idea that an angel could look/act like Clarence.
  • Buffalo Gals Scene-Most oddly romantic scene OF.ALL.TIME.
    • The Legacy-This flick was a bit of bomb when it came out and just gained in popularity and critical praise over time. I love that.
