I've Got Some Splainin' To Do

The time has come for the big reveal!

So, I'm from the same hometown as this lady who was ohhhh a bit famous back in the day. She had a little tv show that you might have heard about. Lemme give you a visual hint from paintings on various city buildings in this town, including the post office.

A couple of these are HUUUUGE. So, yeah, I was Lucille Ball for Halloween. I'm  not going to lie. I did a pretty sweet job with the hair, after several hours of frustration. So the big reveal:

You can see in the first pic that I did have earrings in at the beginning of the day, but had to take them out after they were bothering my ears. I wore a 100% Cashmere coat that will be up in the shop soon. I paid a dollar for it. The dress was a 29 cent dress from Goodwill. I borrowed some earrings and a pearl bracelet from my mom and the necklace was a wonderful purchase I made last week from the darling Lauren over at A Wild Tonic. Not pictured are a 50s navy purse I bought for 2 dollars that will also soon be in the shop and a pair of gray wool shoes (yes, wool shoes) from the 50s that I also bought for 29 cents at Goodwill. Even with the 2 dollar orange hair spray color, my entire costume cost me less than 12 dollars. Pretty sweet.

I love the hair the most. My hair is normally a dark brown, so the orange really reacted well with it to make a reddish orange. You can see that it was quite messy tho, as it was all over my neck/ears/forehead. As I type, my hands are still a bit orange. I suspect it will take several showers to completely rid myself of the orange, but it was so worth it. Everyone knew who I was and kept calling me Lucy when I would enter a room. 

I stopped by to see my Grandma and she thought I was dressed up for the heck of it. She told me that maybe I should wear outfits like this more often instead of jeans and t-shirts everyday. You know, so maybe I wouldn't be single...

Yesterday, someone told me that there was a Lucy costume contest in Jamestown. I didn't know about it, because I certainly would have been a contender. Too bad. 

In other news, my darling twin nieces turned 4 yesterday and had a massive party. They know how to throw down haha.

So another Halloween bites the dust. Great time this year. Looking forward to next. I'm already thinking about my costume.

My Halloween Test Run

So as you could probably tell by the numerous costume ideas I have had on the blog, I pretty much love Halloween. Best costume ever? I have three that have been sweet. One year, when I was a kid, my mom got all Martha Stewart and we made my costume. It was a box of popcorn. All I did was wear white sweatpants and a sweatshirt, along with a white winter hat. She spray painted a white box and then took red electrical tape and went down  the sides in stripes. Then we hot glued actual popcorn to the top and wrote popcorn on the side. It was all kinds of awesome.

A few years back my friends and I went as smores. Two were graham crackers, one a marshmallow, and I was the hershey bar. That was pretty sweet. Also, two years ago I had to put together a last minute costume, which I chose Charles Nelson Reilly. Haha. So random, but back in the day at college we would watch the Game Show Network re-runs of Match Game from the 70s. He was our favorite. It consisted of a nautical inspired hat, some huge pink glasses, and a shirt with an ascot. Pretty awesome for last minute, but everyone thought I was Elton John. Pretty similar, I guess.

This year's costume has been cooking up for some time, but I feel like the world is plotting against me in an attempt to make it not happen. It will happen, I say!

So, if you follow me on Twitter, you probably know what it is, but I'm gonna keep it a bit of a surprise until I can hopefully get some pictures after the weekend to show you all. In any event, I began a trial run last night trying to get hair and makeup down.

Here are some hints:

As you can see, I was having some issues with both the liquid liner and the whole rollers thing. Normally, I don't even brush my hair, so trying to figure out rollers is a huge ordeal. Real impressed face in that second pic, no? Sorry for the darkness. I was at the bathroom mirror and the flash was ruining any other attempts.

Probably not enough clues just yet, so you'll have to check back Monday for the big reveal (hopefully).

Halloween Costume Idea #28: Cuz I'm Saved by the Bell

How good was this show? Back before everyone knew Screech was a douchebag in real life or that AC Slater would end up famous for dancing, this show was crazy about fashion. The dudes rocked high tops and tons of denim, while the ladies rocked florals, rompers, and more denim...sometimes all at once.

Halloween Costume Idea #27: Buffy Buffy Buffy

Maybe the best.show.ever? Seriously, I was such a closeted Buffy nerd in middle school and high school, but now I shout my love for the show to pretty much everyone. I know it takes place in the late 90s/early 2000s, but I think we can find a lot of what the gang on Buffy wore from vintage clothing finds and a few handmade goodies. And so I give you: the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Sometimes I think there were two very different ideas about what this chick should wear. She was either all decked out in leather pants and mini skirts with intense slits or they had her in jeans and cable knit sweaters. I chose the option that was a bit more fun.
